I do not know why but this has been on my mind for days!
Do you ever crave to do something the old simple way?
Well for the past couple weeks I have been feeling the need to write with... a pencil. Not a pen, not a mechanical pencil, a real honest to goodness #2 pencil sharpener sharpened pencil. I actually have a few at work that I bought to hand out, really snazzy ones. I did not have a sharpener, so last week I caved and bought a Piranha pencil sharpener. (It is actually fish shaped and says piranha on it) I got as far as sharpening the pencil but I have not yet written with it.
I get this way. Years ago Beloved bought me a stand mixer so I could make bread easier. The problem is, it is easier for me to hand mix my bread that to dig out the dough hooks and try to clean them after making a batch. It does do a marvelous job on cookies, eggs and other things though. I guess my bread dough is too thick for it, or its just plain lazy cuz the dough hooks do not knead they just pull dough up and all over the machine. So I use it to mix the dough until it is knead able then I pull it out and knead it by hand.
Another thought on my mind lately is perception. How differently people see us that what we actually are. Our perception can be skewed by so many things. I got to thinking of this for a couple of reasons. One was a conversation with a friend who said she had been "warned" about me. She will not tell me what was said or by whom, but when I asked her if I was what she was told I was she replied: "no, if you were I would not be hanging around". So I am glad I am not what I am accused of being.
The other thing that got me thinking of this was my friend Meredith's blog. Meredith has been a part of my online life for at least 5 years. She is, to use a phrase of my mom's from years ago, good people. So when I read her blog yesterday and discovered she had gotten some negative comments I was shocked. I reread the post the comments had been made about, and it is a good post. I guess some folks think we should enable people to be irresponsible and not expect them to pay the consequences for their actions. I suppose to do otherwise makes us "mean". Kinda like that Grasshopper/Ant email that was going around a couple months ago.
All I know is, Meredith is one of the people on line I would be willing to don the gloves to defend. She is open and honest, and has a wonderful sense of fair play (as well as style, grace and humor!). There are many people I meet online. Not many I would go to the mat for. Meredith tops the list of those I would.
Well time to go to work!
hugs y'all!:auto003:
